Rock

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is one of those bands that not nearly enough people have heard of which is a shame.

Do you love dirty rock? I know I do and so does Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. They’re one of the few modern bands still making that gritty sound (their music is a post grunge/rock hybrid for those of you keeping track). That said, describing genres is boring and listening to music is awesome so click on the picture and check the song out!

Come to think of it, while you’re over there you may as well grab the entire CD. For those of you who love rock/grunge you’ll get a kick out of this album.

I’m just going to leave this here.

For months my housemate has been pestering me to listen to Haarp, Muse’s live album. That’s no exaggeration, he really has been bugging me since the fall:

“Justin have you listened to Haarp before? You need to listen to it.”
“Have you listened to it yet? It’s seriously great.”
“Dude, months have passed since I told you about Haarp. When are you going to listen to it?”

Finally, right before the calendar turned to February, I gave it a listen. You know what? It really is amazing. This is one of the few albums where I can definitively state that the live version is as good as the studio recording. What makes Haarp so brilliant is that Muse plays the songs we know and love but switches them up just enough that everything is unique. Really it’s a masterpiece.

If you enjoy Muse and live music don’t even hesitate to click on the album art to be taken to Amazon.

While everybody else is talking about the new 30 Seconds To Mars music video (which is very sexual, hence the discussion), we’re going to share another video they’ve done for a truly great song. Have at it!

The Kill

Imagine making an album when you were 16 years old where you were the lead singer, wrote the lyrics, co-wrote the songs, and played a little guitar. Now imagine that you created the album while concurrently shooting episodes for a popular TV show…and for good measure let’s say you graduated from high school when you were 14 years old.

That’s what Taylor Momsen has done and in all honesty it’s bloody incredible. Here’s the thing though, even though she’s 16 her music is genuinely good and she sings with a maturity and skill far beyond her age. Check it out.

Make Me Wanna Die

I’m afraid that in the hype of Kanye’s new album many people overlooked MCR’s latest which came out on November 19, 2010. We haven’t listened to more than snippets of Kanye’s album yet but we have listened to the new MCR.

Oh my god is it good.

We love the progression that MCR has made as a band. They started off rather emo but once “Helena” caught on they modified their sound to fit more of a mass appeal and as such their next album, The Black Parade, was more rock based.

So what is Danger Days like? Well, it has even more rock and the sound is fine tuned to a ridiculous degree. You know right from the very instant you start listening that the album is going to be good, and it does not disappoint.

Go get it. The mp3 download is $3.99 so there is zero excuse for rock fans to not add it to their collection. For those of you who are fans of CDs here is the link to the CD release.

Justin here, a few months ago I had just put the wraps on my master’s degree and was sitting on a plane headed from Melbourne to Vancouver. Truth be told I was pretty bummed out. I’d spent a year overseas and while I wanted to get back to Canada I also wanted to keep the adventure going.

I tried watching a movie to cheer myself up but wasn’t interested in anything listed in the in-flight entertainment device. Switching beats I flipped to the music and randomly picked an artist on the list. The artist I picked was Dane Rumble.

I read the description of the CD I was about to listen to, which stated that it was a collection of anthem songs. “Well this is just the pick-up I need,” I thought. I pushed play and was instantly was treated to the nice, upbeat sound that is “Always Be Here.”

As I relaxed and let myself float away, I realized that I did feel a little better. That’s +1 for music.

We’ve been fans of Evanescence since their debut album Fallen came out in 2003. Why? We really wish you’d stop asking that question, this is BestMusicEver.net after all.

The thing that makes the Fallen so great is that every song on the album is a treat to listen to. Before writing this up we listened to the album for the first time in a year or so, here are some of our comments:

“Wow, this is a really great song!”
“Do you remember when this one came out? I listened to it so many times.”
“I love this song too.”
“Bro is there seriously a bad song on this album?”
“I can’t believe this, I LOVE every song on this album. We have to recommend the entire thing.”

Apparently we’re not the only ones who thought it was great. The album hit seven times platinum in 2008 – that’s over 7,000,000 CDs being shipped in the US alone. Absolutely crazy. The album is truly amazing so click on the picture and pick it up today if you don’t already have it in your collection.

Have a great Monday!

Kill Hannah has been one of our favorite bands since 2006 when they released the phenomenal CD “Until There’s Nothing Left Of Us.” After taking a few years to tour they released another great CD in 2009 with the song Strobe Lights.

Strobe Lights is a fine example of where alternative rock is today. The band makes strong strong use of synth sounds and has great vocals, but that’s not the high point.

The high point of this song is the absolutely epic outro that comes in at 2:35. Here the sound shifts and it isn’t long before guitar takes the lead and vocals step back as a supporting instrument for the remainder of the song. It’s great, so definitely check it out.

Fun fact! One of the things that attracted us to this band was their name which originates nearly two decades ago when when the lead singer was dating a girl named Hannah. When the pair broke up the singer (perhaps going a little crazy) printed out a bunch of stickers that said “Kill Hannah,” and put them on his former band’s CDs. The name was born, and later used in this great band.

It’s time to get some rock back on this site!

Silversun Pickups are a rare type of band – you know, the ones that make you scratch your head and wonder why they’re not more famous than they are.

Choosing which song of theirs to post was rough, but Lazy Eye from their album Carnavas came out on top. It’s their most popular song for good reason: the hook won’t leave your head for days. Plus it has a vintage sound, like it was recorded using old school analog technology.

Make sure you grab the full version of the song, not the single. The single chops off two and a half minutes of music – such a tragedy.
